Carmona says it is a place where people are smiling and laughing. Her classmates in the fourth grade class of Mr. Gilles talk about a campus that it is safe and comfortable, where kids do come and learn.<\/p>\n<p>Peace is the current buzz heard around San Vicente Elementary School. During the kick-off ceremonies held on campus yesterday, children and teachers welcome the year with a big victory sign for peace.<\/p>\n<p>School principal Martha Habberman said they want to have a renewal on peace following the holidays. Thus, the campaign on Peace Builders was launched.<\/p>\n<p>Funded under the safe and drug free grant, Peace Builders use four principles which basically speak about positive vibes. It is designed to reduce aggression while enhancing learning.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Students are taught with these principles by infusing concepts into instructional program,&#8221; said vice- principal Janette Villagomez.<\/p>\n<p>Classes usually start the day with a 30-minute discussion on character. A workshop was held to familiarize teachers with its strategies to incorporate character building with social studies, math and language arts.<\/p>\n<p>To measure the impact of this campaign, an evaluation will take place sometime this year.<\/p>\n<p>However, success stories were recorded in a number of schools in the mainland which used Peace builders like Tucson, Salinas, Riverside and San Bernardino.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What makes a peaceful campus?
