{"id":45259,"date":"1999-01-22T00:00:00","date_gmt":"1999-01-22T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/942ae925-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"1999-01-22T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"1999-01-22T00:00:00","slug":"942ae936-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/942ae936-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman admits theft, gets 70 days in jail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Saipan resident who took money from several guest workers by falsely stating that she could hire them directly was sentenced to 70 days in jail after admitting the charges.<\/p>\n<p>Lillian Duenas, 34, entered a plea agreement and pled guilty to one count of theft by deception and one count of criminal deception.<\/p>\n<p>The Attorney General&#8217;s Office charged her with 25 counts of theft, theft by deception, criminal deception and forgery.<\/p>\n<p>As part of her sentence, she was ordered to pay restitution to her victims amounting $7,306.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Attorney General Marvin J. Williams said Duenas already paid $2,705 to six of her eight victims and will pay the balance after serving her term.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement, she won&#8217;t be eligible for parole.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents showed that Duenas, while an employee of Grace International Inc. informed several guest workers that she was authorized to hire them directly for a fee.<\/p>\n<p>The fee ranges from $300 to $2,555, which she collected mostly from overseas Filipino workers between July 1997 and January of 1998.<\/p>\n<p>Duenas is also charged with forgery when she forged a check on the account of Grace International Inc. amounting $846.<\/p>\n<p>She was ordered to pay fine of $750 and perform 250 hours of community work.<\/p>\n<p>Associate Judge Timothy Bellas also placed her under probation for 20 months.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Saipan resident who took money from several guest workers by falsely stating that she could hire them directly was sentenced to 70 days in jail after admitting the charges.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-45259","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/45259","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=45259"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/45259\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=45259"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=45259"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=45259"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
