The Office of the Public Auditor will probe into the management of policies and procedures being observed at the Northern Marianas College in dispensing educational grants to students.<\/p>\n
Public Auditor Leo LaMotte informed members of the Board of Regents and NMC officials yesterday about the scope of audit work the public will expect from his future reports.<\/p>\n
“It’s usually a combination of several types but we will be auditing various segments of the financial data as well as policy procedure and management,” he said.<\/p>\n
His office was requested by the Committee on Health, Education and Welfare to audit NMC following allegations of mismanagement and questionable financial records way back 1992.<\/p>\n
LaMotte expects to submit two to three reports summarizing its NMC audit to the committee<\/p>\n
Board Chairman Manuel Sablan told LaMotte that records available at NMC are open for his perusal. He was responding to reports over LaMotte’s frustration on the slow turn-out of documents coming from NMC.<\/p>\n
He also told the auditor that past key players, like the former comptroller and legal counsel, can also shed light on the on-going audit.<\/p>\n
President Agnes McPhetres is hoping to end this audit process the soonest time since NMC is due to start its self-study for the accreditation of the four-year degree program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
