{"id":45799,"date":"1999-03-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"1999-03-09T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/945fc2a2-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"1999-03-09T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"1999-03-09T00:00:00","slug":"945fc2b3-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/945fc2b3-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"PSS to tap federal money for hiring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The re-authorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of the Federal government opens another funding source for the Public School System to recruit and prepare teachers.<\/p>\n<p>The HEA offers the opportunity for the states to reexamine their respective institutions of higher learning and their role in preparing teachers.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter to Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio, the CNMI was invited to form a local team with members coming from the legislature, a representative from the Governor&#8217;s Office, the chairman of the legislative education committee and the Commissioner of Education.<\/p>\n<p> A seminar on the &#8220;Higher Education Title II Grant Opportunities&#8221; is scheduled next week at Washington D.C. where the local team to be led by Commissioner of Education Rita Inos is slated to  attend.<\/p>\n<p>This seminar which is funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York is a joint undertaking of the National Governors&#8217; Association Center for Best Practices and the National Conference of State Legislatures. Both organizations will shoulder the travel expenses of the local team composed of four members.<\/p>\n<p>According to Gov. Thomas R.
