After nearly five years of heading one of Saipan’s most powerful private sector organizations, James C. Lin announced his resignation yesterday as chairman of the Saipan Garment Manufacturers Association.<\/p>\n
“I believe it is time for me to step aside to let someone else lead the association and concentrate on all my other projects and interests. I am proud of the changes we have brought about and what we have accomplished in the five years while I was chairman,” Lin said in his letter to the SGMA Board of Directors.<\/p>\n
As the group’s chairman, Lin, who is president and owner of United International Corporation, is credited with improvements in the workplace of factories whenever reports verify these efforts.<\/p>\n
OSHA has indicated continued improvement in factory operations and recently a Northern Pacific Region Roman Catholic CCJD coordinator commented on improvements.<\/p>\n
While helming SGMA, Lin is also credited with the introduction of SGMA’s first Code of Conduct. This process was started after he visited New York and met with Apparel Industry Partnership members.<\/p>\n
He returned to Saipan to begin work on the adoption and implementation of the Code which is still ongoing.<\/p>\n
“Now I want to continue with my contributions to the community, churches and schools to help this community that has been good to me,” Lin said.<\/p>\n
He will continue as an active SGMA director. Current vice chairman In-Taek Choi will assume the position as acting chairman until the Board of Directors select and appoint a new chairman.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
