Lin announced his resignation yesterday as chairman of the Saipan Garment Manufacturers Association.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I believe it is time for me to step aside to let someone else lead the association and concentrate on all my other projects and interests. I am proud of the changes we have brought about and what we have accomplished in the five years while I was chairman,&#8221; Lin said in his letter to the SGMA Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<p>As the group&#8217;s chairman, Lin, who is president and owner of United International Corporation, is credited with improvements in the workplace of factories whenever reports verify these efforts.<\/p>\n<p>OSHA has indicated continued improvement in factory operations and recently a Northern Pacific Region Roman Catholic CCJD coordinator commented on improvements.<\/p>\n<p>While helming SGMA, Lin is also credited with the introduction of SGMA&#8217;s first Code of Conduct. This process was started after he visited New York and met with Apparel Industry Partnership members.<\/p>\n<p>He returned to Saipan to begin work on the adoption and implementation of the Code which is still ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now I want to continue with my contributions to the community, churches and schools to help this community that has been good to me,&#8221; Lin said.<\/p>\n<p>He will continue as an active SGMA director. Current vice chairman In-Taek Choi will assume the position as acting chairman until the Board of Directors select and appoint a new chairman.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After nearly five years of heading one of Saipan&#8217;s most powerful private sector organizations, James C.
