{"id":46215,"date":"1999-04-20T00:00:00","date_gmt":"1999-04-20T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/9473da7f-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"1999-04-20T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"1999-04-20T00:00:00","slug":"9473da93-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/9473da93-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"SC starts $15M Hillblom hearing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Associate Justice Alexandro Castro presided yesterday the preliminary distribution of the Hillblom funds among heir claimants.<\/p>\n<p>With lawyers coming from the mainland and the Philippines gathered at his sala, he said it was the day that everybody looked forward to.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I will call this as the $15 million hearing,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>He opened the distribution trial addressing the issue involving Atty. Antonio Atalig, who represented the Felicianos in the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>A case pending at the Superior Court will resolve the counsel of the Felicianos. However, the lower court failed to act on this case prior to Atalig&#8217;s representation of the Filipinos.<\/p>\n<p>Atalig&#8217;s presence at the court yesterday was not met with opposition from other lawyers who wanted to move on with the trial.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My main concern is that the children are protected to the maximum,&#8221; Castro said and allowed Atalig to represent the Felicianos.<\/p>\n<p>The trial proceeded to a careful review of the provisions which will govern the funds distribution.  Castro led a page by page discussion with the representatives and executor of Hillblom&#8217;s $15 million.<\/p>\n<p>The review of the provisions will continue today.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Supreme Court granted a counsel&#8217;s motion to withdraw from a &#8220;frivolous case.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the case between the CNMI and Antolin Luck, a brief was forwarded to the higher court citing the decision made by the U.S. Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Supreme Court stated in its decision for the Anders vs. California case, if a counsel finds his case to be wholly frivolous, he may seek permission to withdraw providing the court with a brief supporting his point.<\/p>\n<p>With this traffic case, the CNMI Supreme Court agreed that it&#8217;s frivolous and granted his request to withdraw.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Associate Justice Alexandro Castro presided yesterday the preliminary distribution of the Hillblom funds among heir claimants.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-46215","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/46215","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=46215"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/46215\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=46215"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=46215"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=46215"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
