The Business Development Center of the Northern Marianas College is scheduled to unveil the economic study end of this month after an independent team of reviewers goes over the document.<\/p>\n
The economic study is a culmination of a year work in gathering inputs from the community during village meetings and a compilation of findings from the conference held last March.<\/p>\n
Coordinator Sharon Tudela said although the sub-contractors preparing the study had completed the report, a team of both government and private experts will review the document along with members of the steering committee.<\/p>\n
The study will be reviewed by Finance Secretary Lucy Nielsen, Labor and Immigration Secretary Mark Zachares, Special Advisor for Finance and Budget Mike Sablan, President of the Hotel Association of the NMI Ron Sablan and the Chairman of the Tourism and Entertainment Sub-Committee Mustaffa Issa, to mention a few.<\/p>\n
A retreat with the steering committee members and reviewers is scheduled middle part of this month to again gather revisions and recommendations for the CNMI economic study.<\/p>\n
“President Agnes McPhetres wanted to maintain the integrity of this document. So we wanted a thorough review, involving the inputs of all the stakeholders,” she said.<\/p>\n
The 300-page first draft of the study contains separate chapters on the development potential for existing industries in the CNMI as well as for the new industries.<\/p>\n
For the existing industry, it will cover tourism, garments, agriculture and fisheries. This chapter also includes recommendations for policy and legislative actions.<\/p>\n
In a separate chapter, the study has identified services like financial, insurance, communications, data processing and software production as the target new industries for the CNMI.<\/p>\n
This economic study was funded by the Office of the Interior along with the conference held last March which gathered inputs from both local and foreign business experts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
