{"id":46942,"date":"1999-06-14T00:00:00","date_gmt":"1999-06-14T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/94ca6f45-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"1999-06-14T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"1999-06-14T00:00:00","slug":"94ca6f59-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/94ca6f59-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"CNMI holds 1st annual dance fest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five local dance groups showed up at the  First Annual Marianas Traditional Dance Festival held Saturday at Kilili Beach Park.<\/p>\n<p>Despite &#8220;minor glitches,&#8221; the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture, which organized the event, was pleased with the outcome of the project.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s pretty good today despite a couple of dropouts,&#8221; said Robert Hunter, executive director of the arts council.<\/p>\n<p>Seven groups were originally set to perform,  but Hunter said two groups &#8220;called in sick.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the program which was originally scheduled to run until 7:00 PM packed up four hours earlier.<\/p>\n<p>A good crowd gathered at the park during the first few performances, but it dispersed  due to &#8220;gaps in between the performers&#8217; preparations,&#8221; Hunter said.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Hunter said the council was more interested in taking the project off the ground and launching it to become an annual event for Chamorro and Carolinian dances.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With this event, we hope to encourage the formation of more dance groups, and the inclusion of traditional dance programs in school, &#8221; Hunter said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want this to grow huge eventually and we hope to get more people involved next year,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five local dance groups showed up at the  First Annual Marianas Traditional Dance Festival held Saturday at Kilili Beach Park.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-46942","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/46942","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=46942"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/46942\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=46942"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=46942"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=46942"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
