{"id":47144,"date":"1999-06-29T00:00:00","date_gmt":"1999-06-29T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/94cc6baf-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"1999-06-29T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"1999-06-29T00:00:00","slug":"94cc6bc2-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/94cc6bc2-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Cop in misconduct case pleads not guilty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A police officer who allegedly fired a gun during New Year&#8217;s celebration pled not guilty yesterday to charges of disturbing the peace and misconduct in public office.<\/p>\n<p>During the arraignment,  Superior Court Presiding Judge Edward Manibusan ordered Police Officer Troy Palacios to return to the court on Aug. 9  for a status conference.<\/p>\n<p>The Attorney General&#8217;s Office filed the charges against Palacios based on the complaint of a Garapan resident, Helen Z. Horimoto, who said that the police officer &#8220;deprived her of her right to peace&#8221; when he shot his gun in the air on New year&#8217;s eve.<\/p>\n<p>The Attorney General&#8217;s Office said Palacios &#8220;did such acts while under the color of office.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If convicted of disturbing the peace, Palacios would face a punishment of not more than six months of imprisonment and a fine of not more than $500.<\/p>\n<p>The charge of misconduct in public office carries a penalty of not more than one year in jail.
