{"id":47323,"date":"1999-07-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"1999-07-15T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/94d4c0d2-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"1999-07-15T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"1999-07-15T00:00:00","slug":"94d4c0e3-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/94d4c0e3-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"DOLI accused of illegal search and seizure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A garment firm asked the Superior Court yesterday to declare illegal the Department of Labor and Immigration&#8217;s raid that yielded hundreds of textile products and 28 suspected illegal workers last year.<\/p>\n<p>Anner Corp., which operates Suntex, said the department agents&#8217; raid  was &#8220;wrongful&#8221; as it violated the CNMI law against illegal search and seizure as well as the company owners&#8217; Fourth Amendment rights under the US Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the charges filed in October 1998 by DOLI through the Attorney General&#8217;s Office, Suntex denied the government&#8217;s allegation that it was harboring illegal aliens.<\/p>\n<p>The raid was conducted at the Golden Dragon Paper Factory in Koblerville, where  government agents seized 221 bundles and 13 bags containing 6,565 finished products such as polo shirts and T-shirts that belonged to Suntex.<\/p>\n<p>These items were reportedly found in a trimming room of the factory.<\/p>\n<p>These items, which Suntex wants to retrieve, are now in the custody of DOLI.<\/p>\n<p>DOLI claimed these garments &#8220;were used or intended for use in connection with harboring illegal aliens&#8221; and &#8220;in violation of immigration laws.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The raid was followed by DOLI&#8217;s filing of 28 deportation cases against alleged overstayers and working tourists arrested at the factory.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A garment firm asked the Superior Court yesterday to declare illegal the Department of Labor and Immigration&#8217;s raid that yielded hundreds of textile products and 28 suspected illegal workers last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-47323","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/47323","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=47323"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/47323\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=47323"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=47323"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=47323"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
