‘Pro hac vice’ holders urged

Attorneys who are not licensed to practice law in the CNMI but are handling cases in local courts were reminded yesterday to apply for “pro hac vice” admissions.<\/p>\n
A “pro hac vice” admission is temporary authority allowing a lawyer not licensed in the CNMI to appear in the local court for a particular case.<\/p>\n
The Supreme Court yesterday issued a notice reminding “pro hac vice” holders that their temporary admissions will expire on Sept. 30.<\/p>\n
The attorneys concerned are advised to submit a new application and pay the $5,000 admission fee.<\/p>\n
Pro hac vice admissions are good for 12 months from date of admission.<\/p>\n
Under the Supreme Court guidelines:<\/p>\n
\u2022 An attorney admitted pro hac vice shall associate with local counsel admitted to the practice of law in the court of the CNMI;<\/p>\n
\u2022 No attorney who resides or maintains an office in CNMI may be admitted pro hac vice; and<\/p>\n
\u2022 An attorney who is already admitted pro hac vice in one case shall not be eligible to apply for admission in another case until the first case is closed.<\/p>\n
Hit and run victim

Twenty-nine year old Atarino Phylon was walking along the bike lane Saturday evening near Pacific Islands Club when he was hit by a Toyota pick up.<\/p>\n
Won Don Chong, 44, a Korean national, fled the scene but the police caught him later when he struck the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation’s retaining wall in Dandan, according to Rose Ada, Department of Public Safety information officer.<\/p>\n
Chong, president of Unicorn Corp., sustained head and chest injuries. His victim, Phylon, is now in serious condition at the Commonwealth Health Center after he suffered extensive head injury, including a massive brain hemorrhage.<\/p>\n
Pedestrian hit by a car<\/p>\n
A 31-year old Chinese was crossing along the pedestrian crosswalk near Highway Market when she was hit by a Toyota pick up Sunday at around 2:00 pm.<\/p>\n
Fang Chen Yum, a sewing machine operator at Mirage Garment Factory suffered head injury, scalp laceration and broken knee cap. The driver of the vehicle was 39-year old Guifu Chen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
