{"id":47821,"date":"1999-08-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"1999-08-25T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/94e559d0-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"1999-08-25T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"1999-08-25T00:00:00","slug":"94e559e0-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/94e559e0-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"ACCORDING TO SURVEY\nPSS promotes violence-free environment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A recent survey on public education indicated the community&#8217;s satisfaction with the Public School System&#8217;s performance in providing programs and services that promote a drug-free and violence-free school environment.<\/p>\n<p>PSS has received the highest approval rating in this area.<\/p>\n<p>The survey showed that of 1,899 respondents, 607 or 49 percent agreed that PSS &#8220;always&#8221; provides adequate drug-free and anti-violence programs.<\/p>\n<p>The survey, conducted by PSS, provided 15 questions answerable by &#8220;always, usually, sometimes, never, and don&#8217;t know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the area of drug-free programs, 28 percent of the respondents replied &#8220;usually&#8221; to the question; 17 percent checked &#8220;sometimes&#8221;;   3 percent said &#8220;never;&#8221; and 7 percent said they &#8220;don&#8217;t know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>D.A.R.E is one of the major drug-prevention programs adopted by PSS and conducted in every public school.<\/p>\n<p>PSS got the next highest rating in the area of food and nutrition service, in which the agency received a 47 percent approval rating from the community.<\/p>\n<p>Providing sports activities, for which PSS got a 41 percent satisfaction rating, is the third strongest point of the education agency.<\/p>\n<p>PSS scored least in the area of addressing &#8220;at-risk&#8221; students. Only 19 percent believes that PSS is providing adequate programs for at-risk students and 27 percent said they &#8220;don&#8217;t know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The survey was conducted among parents, members of the religious community, government officials and employees, businessmen, and private school students.<\/p>\n<p>Ray Tebuteb, PSS teacher training coordinator, said results of the survey will be discussed in the forthcoming educational summit for parents and other members of the community.<\/p>\n<p>Tebuteb said the summit, which will be held at Diamond Hotel on Sept. 8, will solicit the community&#8217;s input into the PSS efforts to improve the quality of public education.
