A recent survey on public education indicated the community’s satisfaction with the Public School System’s performance in providing programs and services that promote a drug-free and violence-free school environment.<\/p>\n
PSS has received the highest approval rating in this area.<\/p>\n
The survey showed that of 1,899 respondents, 607 or 49 percent agreed that PSS “always” provides adequate drug-free and anti-violence programs.<\/p>\n
The survey, conducted by PSS, provided 15 questions answerable by “always, usually, sometimes, never, and don’t know.”<\/p>\n
In the area of drug-free programs, 28 percent of the respondents replied “usually” to the question; 17 percent checked “sometimes”; 3 percent said “never;” and 7 percent said they “don’t know.”<\/p>\n
D.A.R.E is one of the major drug-prevention programs adopted by PSS and conducted in every public school.<\/p>\n
PSS got the next highest rating in the area of food and nutrition service, in which the agency received a 47 percent approval rating from the community.<\/p>\n
Providing sports activities, for which PSS got a 41 percent satisfaction rating, is the third strongest point of the education agency.<\/p>\n
PSS scored least in the area of addressing “at-risk” students. Only 19 percent believes that PSS is providing adequate programs for at-risk students and 27 percent said they “don’t know.”<\/p>\n
The survey was conducted among parents, members of the religious community, government officials and employees, businessmen, and private school students.<\/p>\n
Ray Tebuteb, PSS teacher training coordinator, said results of the survey will be discussed in the forthcoming educational summit for parents and other members of the community.<\/p>\n
