{"id":47892,"date":"1999-08-31T00:00:00","date_gmt":"1999-08-31T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/94e5d6fb-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"1999-08-31T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"1999-08-31T00:00:00","slug":"94e5d70c-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/94e5d70c-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Fellowship grant available for teachers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Public School System has started receiving applications for the 1999 Christa McAuliffe Fellowship for eligible teachers and principals.<\/p>\n<p>Education Commissioner Rita Inos announced that the grant has been expanded to allow 10 fellowships instead of just one.<\/p>\n<p>Deadline for submission of application is Sept. 27, Inos said in a memo to teachers and principals.<\/p>\n<p>An applicant may request a fellow grant of maximum of $2,500.<\/p>\n<p>Eight years of experience as a class room teacher is among the eligibility requirements for an applicant.<\/p>\n<p>Grant recipients, according to Inos, also have to agree to a condition for  them to return to teaching position for at least two years following the completion of the award.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Repayment of the award shall be made to the state in case of fraud or gross noncompliance by any recipient,&#8221; Inos said.<\/p>\n<p>The  fellowship priorities involve areas on research on school improvement plans through local content and performance standard development, and assessment design; learning technologies for classroom use, development of innovative programs; as well as projects that involve community and school partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The fellowships should be for professional development expenses with little or no equipment or materials being purchased,&#8221; Inos said.
