Knight is the new head of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n<p>Knight was elected president during a well-attended general membership meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>Also elected are David Tollestrup, vice president; Joe Chiles, secretary; Mark Thomson, treasurer.<\/p>\n<p>Elected to serve for two-year terms as board of directors are David Wiseman, Tony Mosely and Jay Jones. Continuing to serve for a second year of their two-year terms are Richard A. Pierce and Jim Stowall.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s board encompasses a cross-section of businesses, and  Knight said this will allow the Chamber to assess issues from different angles.<\/p>\n<p>Said Knight: &#8220;I&#8217;m an optimist and I believe we can become prosperous once again, but we should not expect to get there easily and we should not expect a boom like we had in the late &#8217;80s when were &#8216;discovered&#8217; by the Japanese investors.  Again, let&#8217;s use this time to become better employers, a more mature tourist destination and a better community as a whole.  My family, my employees and I are committed to being survivors and to doing what we can to help our islands&#8217; economy improve.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sunset Advertising president Lynn A.
