Air Macau may become Palau’s national carrier<\/p>\n
KOROR, Palau—The Portuguese colony of Macau and Palau aviation officials are discussing the possibility of Air Macau becoming Palau’s national carrier when Macau reverts to Chinese sovereignty at the end of the year.<\/p>\n
Palau government aviation official Johny Kishigawa said matters still to be resolved include division of the joint venture’s equity.<\/p>\n
A major goal of the proposed airline deal would be to boost visitor arrivals to Palau, which currently total about 60,000 a year.<\/p>\n
Pacific details climate changes<\/p>\n
BONN, Germany—Pacific nations have presented detailed evidence at a UN-sponsored climate change convention to back up their claims that they are the main victims of the warming of the earth.<\/p>\n
Their report shows unusual changes in climate and sea levels in the region, and pinpoints low-lying atolls in the Cooks Islands, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands and Tuvalu that are at particular risk of being flooded.<\/p>\n
The range of severe environmental changes affecting the islands include accelerating coastal erosion and agricultural crops being poisoned by rising seas infiltrating groundwater.<\/p>\n
French Polynesia to create world’s biggest garland<\/p>\n
PAPEETE, French Polynesia—Students from Tahiti’s primary schools will join forces on National Children’s Rights Day, November 20, in an attempt to create the world’s biggest flower garland and enter the Guinness World Book of Records.<\/p>\n
