The morning of November 6, 1999 was that kind of a day at the Mariana Country Club. It was a day when two putts from within 10 feet were a good effort. And when you’re standing on the fairway on hole #14 after laying up to hit your third shot with a wood in your hand imagining all the bad things that could go wrong, your best hope is to walk away with a double bogie. You could hear fits echoing across fairways and golf clubs being slammed into bags. Even deep impressions on greens – not ball marks – were evidence of the frustrations.<\/p>\n
After 18 punishing holes none of the players who showed up that day to play the Refaluwasch Golf Association’s November Ace tournament could turn in a score better than the 69 shot by Jesse Stol in the qualifying round.<\/p>\n
Stol is officially the November Ace of the Month winner. With home turf advantage, Joe Mafnas managed to hold it together for a gross score of 81 and a net score of 69 to claim first place followed by Jess Wabol, who shot a gross score of 77 and a net score of 73 for second place.<\/p>\n
