What started out as a class project on Environmental Awareness, has turned into a College Lab School tradition!<\/p>\n
Last school year, the NMC School of Education College Lab School was involved in a thematic unit entitled, “Saving Our Environment”. During Spring 1999 student teacher Velma De Leon Guerrero and Debra M. Whitt, a master teacher at the College Lab School, approached the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and signed up to adopt a public beach to clean. Based on the availability of beaches, class size and enrollment of the College Lab School, Ladder Beach was selected.<\/p>\n
According to Ms. Whitt, “The upper grades (fourth and fifth) along with their teachers and supportive parents were more than happy to continue the beach clean up this school year!”<\/p>\n
In school years to come, the Lab School hopes to continue the tradition of caring for our environment.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, April 26th, DEQ representatives presented a plaque to the College Lab School students for their dedication and outstanding contribution in keeping our environment clean.<\/p>\n
The students and teachers hope to inspire others to do the same!<\/p>\n
