The Northern Marianas College is seeking the Legislature’s assistance in funding NMC’s Capital Improvement Projects plan as College President Jack Sablan revealed CIP priorities which the college sees as vital necessities to address the students’ needs.<\/p>\n
During a Board of Regents meeting this week, Mr. Sablan listed the general purpose classroom and the library as the college’s top priorities.<\/p>\n
“NMC is already maximizing the use of its current library resources and it needs a back up on its instructional materials,” said Mr. Sablan.<\/p>\n
The administration, in an informal survey, was able to zero in on a similar set of priorities from NMC students and staff.<\/p>\n
Also included in the administration’s top priorities is the need to expedite the second phase to the multi-purpose gymnasium.<\/p>\n
Improvements at the NMC’s Tinian campus is underway, according to the president. The contractor for the proposed facilities is only awaiting the arrival of materials, he added.<\/p>\n
According to a NMC-commissioned economic study, 1998 CIP and Educational Specifications Plan for the college for the years 1998-2004 has been completed for the Saipan campus.<\/p>\n
The plan calls for Business and Tourism Learning Center with an estimated cost of $9.7 million, phase two of the multi-purpose gymnasium with estimated cost of $1.3 million, and the multi-story building to house the library collection as well as the archives and Pacific collection which cost is estimated to reach $3.3 million.<\/p>\n
The plan also includes a facility to house baccalaureate degree program in education with an estimated cost of $1.6 million as well as student center and bookstore with an estimated cost of $300,000.<\/p>\n
Parking, drainage, and landscaping, with an estimated cost of $300,000 was also cited in the NMC’s 1998 CIP plan. (MM)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
