The CNMI Council for Parent Teacher Association is now a proud member of the Pacific Congress of PTA\/PTSA as well as the U.S. National PTA after six officials from the group took part in the recent National PTA Convention in Okinawa, Japan.<\/p>\n
The membership will now allow the local PTA council to benefit from a number of federally-funded programs accorded to all members of the regional and national organization.<\/p>\n
Board of Education Chair of the Committee on Parent-Teacher Relations Roman Benavente yesterday said advantages to this membership is encompassing as it could help the council identify federal grants from the U.S. Department of Education.<\/p>\n
Last April, council officials attended the national convention where they were officially chartered as members of the association.
\nThere, they also received certificates and plaques as newly-installed members of the National PTA.<\/p>\n
While in Okinawa, council delegates also attended a workshop on building parental involvement and partnerships.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, they also participated in discussions on various education issues where they shared ideas on making improvements.<\/p>\n
This month, another set of council officials are also set to fly to Chicago, Illinois for a similar conference.<\/p>\n
All new information and knowledge gained will be shared in community training sessions and workshops throughout CNMI.<\/p>\n
A training team is currently developing the material and coordinating site visits to the different schools all over CNMI.<\/p>\n
“When there is parent involvement, education is always a success. In the past two years, the PTA has been low key in exhibiting an active involvement in school activities but now I think there is more energy, and the officers are really here to help.
