Before setting foot on the island, all they heard about Saipan were stories about alleged “sweatshops” and ill-treated factory workers.
\nTeachers, students, and school aides from the Oceanview Middle School of Guam, during a field trip to a local garment factory on island yesterday saw for themselves the real picture.<\/p>\n
“I mostly heard about the bad working conditions here. But we’re glad to see it’s not that way at all. The facility is fully air-conditioned,” said 8th grade Oceanview Middle School teacher Betty Lagutang, a resident of Guam.<\/p>\n
Eighth grade students who took time to survey the factory of L&T were awed at what they saw during the site visit yesterday.<\/p>\n
“It’s really fun, exciting, and interesting,” said 13-year-old Jeny Suarez.<\/p>\n
The students with their teachers spent the weekend on Saipan as one of the activities in their school’s Marketing Club.<\/p>\n
