The Saipan Major League Baseball Association will hold the 2nd Annual Summer Baseball League on Aug. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Francisco M. Palacios ball field in Susupe.<\/p>\n
So far six teams have expressed their interest to play in the league but only one team have submitted a roster. Entrance fee of $1,200.00, payable to SML on or before Aug. 21 no later than 5:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
Teams are asked to start securing team sponsors now and not wait till the last minute. Ordering of baseball uniforms from off-island vendors should be taken into consideration.<\/p>\n
The association is also reminding teams that only those players turning 18 on or before the league’s opening date are eligible to play. Likewise, those players turning 26 this year are not eligible to play. Copies of birth certificates, driver’s license, or passports of new players must be submitted along with an entrance fee of $6.00 per player before the Aug. 21.<\/p>\n
Prospective teams for the upcoming league include last season’s champion and pennant winners Saipan Stevedore Pirates, Team Pepsi, Northern Yankees, Kautz Glass Glazers, Tanapag Falcons and a team from Koblerville.<\/p>\n
Should everything goes as planned, the opening night will see the defending champions Pirates squaring off against runner-up champs Pepsi at 6:30 p.m. Games will be played every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening.<\/p>\n
