Jo-Anna Nakata, state executive director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency in Honolulu, Hawaii, is set to be honored today with a CNMI House resolution recognizing her efforts to help local farmers.<\/p>\n
Rep. William S. Torres, author of HR 12-64, said the move is in line with the Secretary’s Honor award bestowed on the federal official by the USDA last month in Washington D.C.
\nMs. Nakata was honored for her outstanding contributions in improving program delivery and customer service to agricultural producers in Hawaii and the Pacific Basin.<\/p>\n
In particular, the award cited her for “innovative outreach in delivering supervised agricultural credit and training to limited resource Asian-Pacific islander farmers in the CNMI.”<\/p>\n
Mr. Torres said Ms. Nakata deserves recognition by the Commonwealth because of the significant impact of the program to local farmers.<\/p>\n
Her pioneering effort in extending USDA\/FSA Farm Loan Program to the islands has provided the much-needed financial support to farmers and ranchers, the lawmaker added.<\/p>\n
Ms. Nakata, who has been a state director for FSA since 1993, receives the House resolution during a ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Saipan where she is one of the speakers during the “14th Annual Conference of the Pacific Basin Association of Conservation Districts.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
