{"id":53500,"date":"2000-09-08T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2000-09-08T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/963a137b-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2000-09-08T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2000-09-08T00:00:00","slug":"963a138b-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/963a138b-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Pacific Islands Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kiribati earns over $400K<br \/>\nfrom passport sales<\/p>\n<p>TARAWA, Kiribati &#8211; The government has earned more than $400,000 from the sale of passports to foreign investors since June last year.<\/p>\n<p>A foreign ministry spokesperson said 30 new green-colored passports were sold to businessmen from Asia and more are expected to be sold in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Radio Kiribati reported that each new passport costs a minimum of $15,000.<\/p>\n<p>Tuvalu formally joins UN<\/p>\n<p>UNITED NATIONS, New York &#8211; Tuvalu was formally admitted this week as the 189th member of the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p>Located about 600 miles north of Fiji, Tuvalu is one of the world&#8217;s smallest countries, covering just 10.4 square miles.
