Sablan announced recently that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a grant of $65,357 to continue the CNMI Maternal and Child Health Data System Linkage and Training Initiative through FY 2012.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Commonwealth&#8217;s health system is struggling for funding,\u201d said Sablan, \u201cso every dollar of federal assistance is welcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The grant is more than twice the $30,832 the Commonwealth received in 2011 for the data system. The multi-year project aims to provide the CNMI Department of Public Health access to a more comprehensive information database on maternal and infant health and aid in improving the well-being of women and children in the Marianas.<\/p>\n<p>Funding for this grant is provided by the State Systems Development Initiative, a complement program to the Maternal and Child Health Block Grant.<\/p>\n<p>President Barack Obama, in his FY 2013 budget proposal, requested $640 million in funding for this grant program, a $1 million increase from FY 2012.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Press Release Delegate Gregorio Kilili C.
