Sablan has resigned from his post yesterday to give way to a new leadership at the tourism agency.<\/p>\n<p>The MVA board of directors will hold an election next week to choose the new chair.  In the meantime, Board Secretary Julian Calvo will serve as acting board chair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am giving the board members the opportunity to choose the new leader. I really hope MVA will continue to prosper and the industry will be able to recover from the economic slump,\u201d Mr. Sablan said.<\/p>\n<p>The resignation of Mr. Sablan came in the wake of a Senate\u2019s decision to reduce the budget of MVA from $6 million to $4.9 million for FY 2001 by giving the rest of the money to Rota and Tinian and paving the way for the establishment of separate MVA offices.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Sablan has earlier signified his intention to step down as board chair when four  elected members of the nine-man board  took office late June of this year.<\/p>\n<p>The board of directors, however, appealed for him to stay in view of the ongoing projects of the tousim agency.<\/p>\n<p>Other members of the board are Marian Aldan-Pierce, Frances LG.
