Co. against Wendy&#8217;s Saipan International.<\/p>\n<p>The international fastfood chain ceased operating on Saipan in October 2000 due to the slowdown in the island&#8217;s economy, which has resulted in financial losses for the company.<\/p>\n<p>Court records show that WSI has not been able to pay its rental obligation which has ballooned to $58,103.<\/p>\n<p>As early as Oct. 26, 1999, Niizeki has issued a notice of default to Wendy&#8217;s for nonpayment of rent on the property located on Beach Road in Garapan.<\/p>\n<p>On Nov. 30, 1999, Wendy&#8217;s paid $9,729 to Niizeki which was credited to past due rent. Wendy&#8217;s again paid on Dec. 31, 1999 $14,729 to Niizeki and credited to past due rent.<\/p>\n<p>Wendy&#8217;s and other establishments on the island have been severely affected since the onslaught of the regional crisis in 1997. As a result, the restaurant was forced to take cuts in operating expenses as it shortened store hours and eliminated breakfast menus.<\/p>\n<p>The popular international chain has 365 restaurants throughout the world, excluding 4,964 in the mainland United States, 300 in Canada and about 1,866 Tim Horton&#8217;s restaurants.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Superior Court Presiding Judge Edward Manibusan has granted the motion for summary judgment of Niizeki International Saipan.
