{"id":55492,"date":"2001-01-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2001-01-09T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/969a783a-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2001-01-09T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2001-01-09T00:00:00","slug":"969a784d-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/969a784d-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Whale knocks hole in Australia Boat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SYDNEY, Australia (AP) &#8211; Two Australian fishermen had to be rescued after a whale knocked a 16-inch hole in their boat, the country&#8217;s coastal patrol said Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Paris Vella and Glen Connell had just started fishing off the coast of Merimbula, about 280 miles south of Sydney, when they were hit by the giant mammal on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s just old and cranky &#8211; because it was a deliberate bashing and not an accident,&#8221; said Baden Cameron, a commander for the Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol.<\/p>\n<p>The impact threw both men overboard and nearly capsized their 15-foot boat.<\/p>\n<p>A nearby charter vessel towed the sinking boat to shore while the men &#8220;bailed for their lives&#8221;, Cameron said.<\/p>\n<p>The whale was believed to be either a sperm or a southern right whale.
