{"id":55640,"date":"2001-01-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2001-01-17T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/96a34655-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2001-01-17T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2001-01-17T00:00:00","slug":"96a34665-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/96a34665-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Malaitans clean up capital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Honiara, Solomon Islands (PINA Nius) \u2014 Hundreds of Malaitans are expected to roll up their sleeves in a display of community pride tomorrow when the island&#8217;s capital holds a &#8220;Clean Up Auki Day&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A number of religious organizations including the Catholic Church, Church of Melanesia, Seventh Day Adventist, Assembly of God and South Seas Evangelical Church are organizing the clean up.<\/p>\n<p>It follows the signing of the Townsville Peace Agreement which ended two years of ethnic conflict between militant forces from Guadalcanal (Isatabu Freedom Movement) and Malaita (Malaita Eagle Force).<\/p>\n<p>The Malaita Provincial government and the International Peace Monitoring Team are also involved in the community clean-up.<\/p>\n<p>International Peace Monitoring Team Auki team member Constable Young says he was looking forward to joining with the community to help tidy up the township.<\/p>\n<p>Constable Young says the team feels privileged to have been asked to come and help the Peace Monitoring Council with the peace process in Solomon Islands.<\/p>\n<p>He says the International Peace Monitoring Team has been overjoyed by the warm way the people of Malaita have accepted them into their community.<\/p>\n<p>Constable Young says the team is looking forward to working along with the rest of the community as its way of thanking the people of Auki for their friendship.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Russell Islands Plantation Estates Limited, RIPEL, has asked the public in and around Honiara to stop harvesting coconuts at the Lunga and Tenaru RIPEL plantations.<\/p>\n<p>These plantations are located east of the capital.<\/p>\n<p>In a message to the public, RIPEL&#8217;s management said that anyone found harvesting coconuts in the two areas would be dealt with legally.<\/p>\n<p>The company has resumed its normal operations following the peace agreement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds of Malaitans are expected to roll up their sleeves in a display of community pride tomorrow when the island&#8217;s capital holds a &#8220;Clean Up Auki Day&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-55640","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/55640","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=55640"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/55640\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=55640"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=55640"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=55640"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
