$1M gift to Marshalls from Taiwan<\/p>\n
MAJURO, Marshall Islands (PIR) \u2014 Taiwan ambassador Leo Fu-tien Liu has provided nearly a million dollars for new development projects on several islands.<\/p>\n
Liu handed over a check for $919,839.17 to government officials in a capital building ceremony.<\/p>\n
Among the projects the aid funding will make possible are a new fire station on Ebeye, a Majuro city hall building and erosion prevention facilities on Ailuk.<\/p>\n
FSM President Falcam to Japan<\/p>\n
TOKYO, Japan (PIR) — Federated States of Micronesia President Leo Falcam will make a four-day official visit to Japan starting March 7.<\/p>\n
During his stay, Falcam, 65, will meet Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, hold economic talks with Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori.<\/p>\n
The visit will be Falcam’s third to Japan since becoming FSM President in May 1999.<\/p>\n
US Nuke sub to be home ported in Guam<\/p>\n
HAG\u00c5T\u00d1A, Guam (PIR) — The fast-attack American submarine, the USS City of Corpus Christi, will be assigned to Guam beginning in April 2002.<\/p>\n
Guam Congressional Delegate Robert Underwood said the Department of Navy has advised him that the nuclear submarine is the first of three fast-attack submarines definitely to be home ported in Guam.<\/p>\n
It is part of the Navy’s “continuous forward presence in the Pacific Rim,” he said.<\/p>\n
