The Division of Environmental Quality is launching a campaign to help the CNMI public and private sectors learn about environmental maintenance on a watershed basis.<\/p>\n
Watersheds are land areas divided by natural or man-made streams that form drainage basins. DEQ is starting in Garapan, which is in one of the 11 watersheds on Saipan.<\/p>\n
DEQ said approaching environment concerns on a watershed level makes sense since people will learn about restoring and protecting the immediate areas in which they live, work, and play.<\/p>\n
DEQ is reaching out to the community on multiple levels: the businesses, schools, private residences, and other governmental agencies.<\/p>\n
Activities for all of these groups, which will demonstrate ways in which people can keep our fresh water supply and marine waters as clean as possible, have been scheduled.<\/p>\n
DEQ also invites hotels and businesses to a workshop on April 18 conducted by the Watershed Group and the Natural Resources Conservation Service Office.<\/p>\n
“We’ll also hand out questionnaires that test your environmental IQ and ask you to tell us what your particular environmental concerns are,” said DEQ.<\/p>\n
