Superior Court Associate Judge Timothy Bellas yesterday ruled for a continuance in the pending sentence hearing of convicted murderer Eugene Repeki, moving the sentencing date to April 25, 2001.<\/p>\n
The judge yielded to a defense request that the court consider disregarding another pending criminal case lodged against Mr. Repeki in rendering a sentence, as the defendant has not been convicted of the said crime. Mr. Repeki has been previously accused of assaulting another man two years ago.<\/p>\n
Defense attorney Danny Aguilar has been asked by the court to submit a briefing, stating his contentions on the matter.<\/p>\n
Mr. Repeki was found guilty last December of murder in the second degree in connection with the slaying of a 40-year-old man last May 4, 1999.<\/p>\n
The 21-year-old defendant is only one of three suspects in the manslaughter and aggravated assault of contract worker Cesario B. Valerio.<\/p>\n
He was employed as a security guard at Courtney’s Plaza Commercial Bldg. in Chalan Kanoa when he was attacked by three men on May 4, 1999 at around 1am.<\/p>\n
Severely beaten, police rushed him to the Commonwealth Health Center and was medivac to St. Lukes Hospital in Manila where he later died due to severe head injury.<\/p>\n
According to police investigation, three men took turns in hitting Mr. Valerio with a two-feet ashtray which caused a fracture in his skull.<\/p>\n
One of the suspects who admitted to his part in the crime said that he, Mr. Repeki and another man went out drinking on the evening of May 3, 1999.<\/p>\n
When they left the bar, they urinated at the side of City Outlet building where Mr. Valerio, who was then at the second floor of the establishment, reportedly picked a fight with them.<\/p>\n
The three men rushed to the building where they claimed to have seen Mr. Valerio holding a pair of scissors and threatening to stab them. They then allegedly fought back by hitting Mr. Valerio with a two-feet ashtray and took turns in kicking him.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
