High speed driving while under the influence of alcohol has been tagged as a dangerous combination that has led to the detriment of many motorists and road users.<\/p>\n
Both factors are eyed as leading factors in the case of a road mishap early Wednesday morning involving five teenagers.<\/p>\n
According to police records, three 17-year-old boys seated at the rear portion of the vehicle reportedly sustained the most severe injuries.<\/p>\n
They have been admitted to the Commonwealth Health Center and have been placed under the Intensive Care Unit for observation.<\/p>\n
The two 18-year-olds seated on the front row were a tad luckier than the backseat passengers.<\/p>\n
Frank Cruz and Crispin Pangelinan, both residents of Tanapag, came down with minor injuries and lacerations on the head, respectively.<\/p>\n
They were promptly released from the hospital after treatment.<\/p>\n
Mr. Cruz, the operator of the vehicle, was taken under police custody for reckless driving, drinking under the influence of alcohol, and minor consuming alcohol charges.<\/p>\n
When police officers administered an alcohol test on Mr. Cruz, authorities found his blood alcohol reading to be ten times the .08 allowable percentage as mandated by the law.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the three younger boys slipped into unconsciousness after the accident.<\/p>\n
They reportedly suffered internal and multiple orthopedic injuries, according to highly-placed sources. Medical authorities are closely observing their progress.<\/p>\n
The five teenagers were all admitted to CHC after crashing into a Mobil gas pump past midnight Wednesday, were their gray Toyota Corolla four-door sedan made a rough overturn by the 16 highway in Chalan Kiya.<\/p>\n
Police records reveal that the vehicle rammed into a gas pump owned at the gas station, causing the fixed object to be uprooted from its base.<\/p>\n
Mobil employees said the accident occurred eleven minutes after the gas station turned the pump off.<\/p>\n
If the pump was left running at the time the crash happened, the whole station with the people in it would have been obliterated due to a possible explosion, people around the area raised.<\/p>\n
Eye witnesses said the teenage crash victims were still lucky the pump was turned off.<\/p>\n
Mr. Cruz, the driver, could also be held liable for damages caused by the car crash.<\/p>\n
