Bobbi Grizzard, a long time resident of Saipan, is a survivor of breast cancer and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.<\/p>\n
Bobbi is the Chairperson for the Team Captain’s Committee and spends countless hours in soliciting families and companies to put together a team for the Relay event.<\/p>\n
She describes her experience with cancer as the driving force that made her decide to promote the efforts of the American Cancer Society.<\/p>\n
“I’m one of the lucky ones. Twelve years ago, I lost a breast to cancer, but if I had waited even two more months, I would have lost my life. Early detection saved me. My goal is to spread the word that early detection is the best protection,” she says.<\/p>\n
“Don’t be afraid. If cancer is present, it’s not going to get better by ignoring it. As a survivor, it’s important to know that you are not alone in your struggle with and recovery from cancer. Relay for Life offers the opportunity for survivors to feel from the survivors’ community as well as the community as a whole.”<\/p>\n
Bobbi and other cancer survivors will be honored at this year’s Relay for Life 2001 on May 11, beginning at 5:30pm at Hopwood Junior High School. Survivors need only to register their name with Lauri Ogumoro, Social Services at 234-8950. They will not be required to speak, or describe any details of their cancer experience.<\/p>\n
