{"id":63335,"date":"2002-04-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2002-04-16T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/98a5106d-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2002-04-16T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2002-04-16T00:00:00","slug":"98a5107e-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/98a5107e-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Lucido wins pool championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At long last.<\/p>\n<p> After emerging runner-up in numerous weekly events, Joey Lucido finally notched his first championship in the regular pool tournaments at the Corner Pocket in Garapan.<\/p>\n<p>Lucido, long dubbed as one of the most improved players in the league, beat previous champion Rolly Villanueva in the finals of the Tuesday Night Budweiser-Marpac 8-Ball Pool Challenge last week.<\/p>\n<p>He won the first place cash prize while Villanueva, and Jojo Talibong settled for second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 12 billiards enthusiasts showed up to play the Tuesday night regular event, which is played on a double-elimination format where the champion comes home with 50 percent of all the entry fees collected.<\/p>\n<p>The second and third place finishers collect 30 and 20 percent of the fees, respectively. The top finishers also get a package of Budweiser giveaways.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Zheng Cheng beat Raffy Arroyo in a down-the-wire finals match, 4-3, to rule the Budweiser-Marpac 9-Ball Pool Challenge Monday last week.<\/p>\n<p>The match saw the lead change several times, but a key scratch from Arroyo with the game and the championship on the line did it for Zheng.<\/p>\n<p>Zheng won $70 for his win while Arroyo received $50 for placing second.<\/p>\n<p>The nine-ball event is played on single round format where the top two winners share the prize pot.<\/p>\n<p>Entry fee is $10 per player for each tournament.
