Fitial’s Jan. 30 nomination for him to serve on the Commonwealth Election Commission representing Tinian, saying he may run for office.

“I thank the governor for nominating me. After further consideration, I decided to decline the nomination because I have plans of serving the people of Tinian in another capacity,” he told Saipan Tribune.

Hofschneider, the older brother of Senate Vice President Jude U. Hofschneider (R-Tinian), served as Tinian Commerce director from 1994 to 2004. He now runs his own business on Tinian.

He said he might run for a Tinian Municipal Council position or another elected post, depending on the political climate.

In other news, the governor nominated yesterday another nominee to the Public Utilities Commission representing Rota-Oscar P. Quitugua.

Quitugua’s nomination requires the advice and consent of the Senate, which recently rejected the governor’s reappointment to PUC of Viola Alepuyo.

If confirmed, Quitugua will serve the remaining term left vacant by Joaquin S.
