{"id":81090,"date":"2004-05-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2004-05-16T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/9f5bc421-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2004-05-16T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2004-05-16T00:00:00","slug":"9f5bc434-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/9f5bc434-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"It\u2019s all about the different cultures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday marked a day filled with cultural showcases as three schools from Saipan and one from Japan engaged in activities featuring various cultures of the world.<\/p>\n<p>Students from Kagman Elementary School, Oleai Elementary School, Marianas High School and Seisa Gakuen High School were busy showcasing various musical and dance numbers, as each held respective Cultural Day activities at their school grounds.<\/p>\n<p>The elementary schools\u2019 program featured performances from each grade level class. <\/p>\n<p>The Kagman school festivities also included awards ceremonies for theme and drawing contests reflecting the promotion of cultures. Third grade student Francisco Rasa won the theme competition while Louie Bautista won the drawing contest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody worked very hard and they\u2019re all excited for this day. We\u2019re all happy to be here\u2026the parents, students, teachers and guests,\u201d said organizing chair Laura Lewis.<\/p>\n<p>Oleai\u2019s festival also included award ceremonies for theme and essay contests as well as its annual Royal Coronation, which officially declared students Orlando Marciano and Jennalyd Babauta as King and Queen for the school year. Winning the theme contest was Alana Leon Guerrero while Odessa Sacro, Kyle Enriquez, and Kaheolani Alfred were named top three in the essay contest.<\/p>\n<p>The other festival was held at the Marianas High School campus, where both Saipan and Seisa Gakuen students shared respective cultural performances. Local-made booths were also built by the Marianas High students.<\/p>\n<p>The Seisa Gakuen students arrived last Wednesday as part of the 18th Annual Miyazawa Culture Exchange program.<\/p>\n<p>The event also included various competitions between classes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis [event] takes a tremendous amount of organizational work, so it shows the dedication of our staff,\u201d said MHS principal Dr. James Denight. \u201cThe student body\u2026the kids are great and it shows because it\u2019s a cultural celebration and they all get along so well. They show a lot of respect and courteous behavior to each other.
