Students at the William S. Reyes Elementary showcased their writing skills last Friday as the school held its annual Young Authors Book Fair.<\/p>\n
According to school principal Alfred Ada, about 1,241 books were written by students from kindergarten to sixth grade.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want our kids to be proficient and literate, and that\u2019s our main goal,\u201d he said. \u201cThe fair illustrates the students skills and ability to write and it build their self esteem. The kids are always enthusiastic about showing off their work to their parents.\u201d<\/p>\n
The students began working on their books at the beginning of the school year, learning about writing and editing their work as the year went by. Ada said each student wrote about three to four books.<\/p>\n
Sixth grade student Ian Benavente said he enjoys the fair because it makes him feel like a real author.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is really fun. We have a lot of creative books and its fun to read other students\u2019 books. I also like it that other students are reading my books. It makes me feel like a good writer,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
Vice principal Lynette Villagomez said the fair served as an opportunity for the students to express themselves.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey get to show their feelings and express them through different genres, whether it be poetry, autobiographies, writing fiction or non-fiction stories,\u201d she said. \u201cThey share how they feel about life, themselves, and the world, so its very exciting.”<\/p>\n
The fair was organized by the first grade teachers. Ada also commended them for their effort in \u201cputting on a good fair.\u201d<\/p>\n
