{"id":81394,"date":"2004-05-27T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2004-05-27T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/9fa09530-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2004-05-27T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2004-05-27T00:00:00","slug":"9fa09546-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/9fa09546-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Team 9, Faulker and the Cheese prevail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sideout tattoos were doled out free of charge Tuesday night as the fifth consecutive Coors Light Co-ed Beach Volleyball League continued on the sand courts behind the Pacific Islands Club. <\/p>\n<p>Team 9, Gansha and the Cleveland Steamers were able to edge the competition while Faulker (3-1), Givity (1-3), and That\u2019s Not Yogurt (0-4) caught up on all of the books that they\u2019ve been meaning to read.<\/p>\n<p>The night\u2019s first three-set showdown featured the Cleveland Steamers dropping a bomb on Government Cheese, winning two of the three sets. The Steam dumped on the Cheese 11-7 in the first set, only to have the score turned around on them in the second. The Cleveland Steamers took the loss in stride and walloped the Cheese 11-3 in the third to advance their record to 3-2. Their next opponent is the Cyphers, Tuesday, June 1 at 6pm. Government Cheese next faces Faulker, also Thursday night at 7pm.<\/p>\n<p>The second pair of teams that went hand-to-hand in the sand was Gansha and Rusty Slinkys. Gansha polished off the Rusty Slinkys in the first set 11-8 before getting smoked in the second 7-11. Gansha was able to puff it out, winning the final set 11-9 to keep pace with the Steamers at 3-2. After starting the season at 2-0, the Slinkys have now dropped three in a row. Their next match-up is with Givity on Tuesday, June 1, at 8pm, while Gansha hits the sand tonight in the 8pm match with Faulker.<\/p>\n<p>In the highlight match of the night, Team 9 upended Cyphers, handing the league\u2019s top team its first loss of the season. Neither team could come up with a two-point victory until Team 9 reached 15. They were able to keep the momentum on their side as they throttled the first place Cyphers 11-2 in the second. Though they lost the final set 11-3, Team 9 advanced to first place, sharing an identical 4-1 record with Cyphers. The Nine sit alone in first via head-to-head tiebreaker, as they head into tonight\u2019s 6pm match-up with That\u2019s Not Yogurt. Cyphers will try to regain their winning ways against Givity at 7pm.<\/p>\n<p>Games are played Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm through the end of the season on Thursday, June 13.<\/p>\n<p>The team with the best win-loss record after eight games will be crowned the regular season champ, and a single-elimination tournament will be played Tuesday, June 15, for additional prizes.\t <\/p>\n<p>Each team of seven players is permitted four players on the court, with the stipulation that one female be on the court at all times.<\/p>\n<p>All the side-outs you can handle will be doled out again tonight at the PIC.
