The CNMI Public School System Special Education Program will be sponsoring a training workshop for parents of children with autism.<\/p>\n
Presenters Dr. Laurie Sperry and Ron Faulkner will be discussing services available to people with autism and their families.<\/p>\n
The seminar will be on June 12, a Saturday, from 9am to 3pm, at the Star-Po Center (behind Jollibee in Chalan Kanoa, Saipan). The seminar is free of charge.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease pre-register by calling Julie at 664-3990. This seminar is open to family and community members,\u201d Star-Po said in a statement,<\/p>\n
The seminar\u2019s objectives are to:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Identify the importance of parents as teachers;<\/p>\n
\u2022 Identify the importance of home teaching;<\/p>\n
\u2022 Learn the beginning steps of home teaching;<\/p>\n
\u2022 Learn how structured teaching goes across all areas of teaching and everyday life; and<\/p>\n
\u2022 Hands-on construction of materials appropriate to home teaching.
\nTo create materials for your child, bring (if you can): <\/p>\n
\u2022 Things to sort out, count, match (poker chips, clothespins, golf tees, picture cards, beads, etc.)<\/p>\n
\u2022 Containers (shoeboxes, ice cream, yogurt, margarine, coffee cans, Tupperware, etc.)<\/p>\n
