Lawmen arrested Monday a man who threatened to kill his former girlfriend through cellular phone text messages, acting promptly to avert the possible commission of another crime of passion.<\/p>\n
Twenty-five-year-old Kenneth Isip was allegedly despondent due to his failed relationship with Maridel C. Gloria, who now has a new boyfriend, according to CNMI chief prosecutor David Hutton.<\/p>\n
Police caught Isip Monday afternoon at Navy Hill, enforcing an arrest warrant issued by Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo. The judge initially imposed a $750-bail on Isip.<\/p>\n
Govendo issued the arrest warrant following the submission of an affidavit by police detective Elias Q. Saralu, affirming the probability that Isip could have committed the offenses of assault and disturbing the peace.<\/p>\n
Based on Saralu\u2019s affidavit, Gloria received threatening text messages on her cellular phone, which apparently came from Isip. On Wednesday last week, Gloria was getting ready for work when she got a text message, the detective said.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe looked at the message and she became scared because of what the message contained. She scrolled down the screen of her cellular phone to see who sent the message and the display showed her ex-boyfriend\u2019s cellular phone number,\u201d the investigator narrated.<\/p>\n
Gloria claimed that Isip was mad and threatened to kill her, the police affidavit stated. It further said that Gloria received other text messages from Isip, who allegedly threatened to kill the woman\u2019s new boyfriend and the latter\u2019s family on Guam.<\/p>\n
Police said Gloria became more worried because her boyfriend\u2019s mother was sick, fearing that threatening messages or calls might exacerbate the latter\u2019s poor health condition.
