In the past we would kick-off games with teams having no uniforms and it doesn’t really look good for the Rotary and the companies and individuals who sponsor teams,” he said.

Despite the postponement of the starting date, the deadline for entries still stands and will be due this Monday, June 7, at 12pm.

Entries must include team rosters, players’ proof of age, completed waiver forms, and $5 membership fee. Team must also shell out $20 for team insurance payable to AON Insurance. The cut-off date for players going on 19 years old is Sept. 30 of this year.

Rangamar also said that a “no clinic, no coaching” rule for this year’s Rotary league will be implemented. But instead of conducting the coaching seminars before the start of the league as reported earlier, they would just have to do it while the league is ongoing.

He said the unavailability of FIBA Oceania official and frequent CNMI visitor Stuart Manwaring has caused the change in the plans.

For more information on the upcoming 2004 Rotary Club of Saipan Summer Youth Basketball League, please call Elias Rangamar at 664-2503 or 664-2508.

On November 5, 2003, Dan Barcinas and Dexter Dillay led Verizon Ol’Aces to the championship after vanquishing San Antonio Sixers I, 85-81.

Verizon actually won all 14 games last year behind a solid bunch of veterans and rookies. Up-and-coming coach Lawrence Rosario mentored the team, while ex-Ol’Aces big man Ambrose Ogumoro served as his assistant coach.

The start of the 2004 Rotary Club of Saipan Summer Youth Basketball League may be rescheduled to a later date.

[4

post-81659","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news
["GET
