The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s Pacific Islands Office is hosting a three-day conference for Pacific Island environmental officials titled, \u201cMake A Difference,\u201d on June 21-25 at the Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach on Saipan.<\/p>\n
The conference will be attended by environmental officials and government representatives from the U.S. mainland, Guam, American Samoa, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and the Republic of Palau.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe conference will bring together leaders in government and industry from around the Pacific to examine environmental challenges and issues facing the Pacific Islands,\u201d said John McCarroll, chief of the EPA Pacific Southwest Region\u2019s Pacific Islands Office. \u201cThe sessions will discuss strategies to make a difference in protecting the island environments and will provide island leaders with the latest ideas and tools on presenting fragile ecosystems.\u201d<\/p>\n
CNMI Gov. Juan N. Babauta, Honolulu Mayor Jeremy Harris, and Palau President Tommy Remengesau will all provide opening remarks.<\/p>\n
Keynote speaker Asterio Takesy, South Pacific regional environmental programming director, will highlight environmental needs and efficiencies in his speech, \u201cPacific Futures: A Program for Monitoring Islands Sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n

* Coral Reefs and Watershed Protection<\/p>\n
* Water Resource Assessment and Management<\/p>\n
* Environment and Public Health<\/p>\n
* Improving Utility Management<\/p>\n

* Environmental Enforcement<\/p>\n
* Recycling in Micronesia<\/p>\n
Working sessions for the EPA, territorial environmental, utility, and public works agencies will be on June 21-22, with field trips on June 22 for conference attendees that do not attend the working sessions that day. The main conference program will take place on June 23-25.<\/p>\n
