On his last day as top executive of the CNMI premier tourism marketing arm, Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Jonas Ogren joined the industry\u2019s Micronesian leaders during a general assembly of the Pacific Asia Travel Association\u2019s Micronesia Chapter at the Saipan World Resort.<\/p>\n
Ogren is headed back to his native homeland Sweden, after his two-year stint as MVA managing director and spending a career of over eight years in the CNMI\u2019s tourism industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve really had a great time working for the MVA,\u201d Ogren said. \u201cI have enjoyed being a part of an organization consisting of dynamic individuals that hold a common goal.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr. John Salas, PATA Micronesia\u2019s chair, handed out a certificate of appreciation for Ogren\u2019s contributions to the region\u2019s tourism.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn that we know you will return to Micronesia at one point, we thank you and we will miss you,\u201d said Salas.<\/p>\n
Ogren considers the improvement of the MVA\u2019s relationships with travel industry players connecting the CNMI to Japan, Korea and China as a major accomplishment that has contributed to the agency\u2019s goals during his tenure. <\/p>\n
He became the MVA\u2019s top executive in June 2002. The MVA rehired Ogren in 2003 for another one-year term.<\/p>\n
Before becoming MVA managing director, the Cornell University alumnus had a six-year stint with the Rota Resort and three years of membership with the MVA\u2019s Public Relations and Ad Committee.<\/p>\n
MVA chairman David Sablan described Ogren\u2019s leadership as one that \u201ctremendously contributed to the success of the MVA.\u201d<\/p>\n
The MVA chairman credited Ogren\u2019s efforts in promoting the CNMI as a tourist destination to Japan, Korea and China. As MVA managing director, Ogren ensured that the three major islands\u2014Saipan, Tinian and Rota\u2014received proper promotional recognition, according to Sablan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
