{"id":82401,"date":"2004-07-06T06:35:00","date_gmt":"2004-07-06T06:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/9fe0a74a-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2004-07-06T06:35:00","modified_gmt":"2004-07-06T06:35:00","slug":"9fe0a75b-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/9fe0a75b-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Measure calls for ban on sale of used tires"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The sales or importation of used tires may soon be prohibited in the Commonwealth after a bill introduced in yesterday\u2019s House session proposed that it be made unlawful.<\/p>\n<p>According to the proposal, importing or selling of used tires would be deemed illegal within 120 days after the Act becomes a law.<\/p>\n<p>The bill, however, indicated several exemptions, including the use of used tires for agricultural motor vehicles; used tires on imported vehicles; used tires with a U.S. DOT identification number; and retread tires.<\/p>\n<p>If passed, violators may be assessed a penalty of not more than $5,000 per day per violation. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn determining the amount of any penalty assessed, the attorney general shall take into account the nature, circumstances and extent of the violation,\u201d according to House Bill 14-212.<\/p>\n<p>The bill also included that the attorney general shall take into consideration any prior history of such violations and the degree of culpability.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal was introduced by Rep.
