Twenty-two high school students from various schools on Saipan and Rota have joined the NMC Summer Apprenticeship Program where they will learn practical skills on which they can build future learning.<\/p>\n
The students will undergo training in agriculture and family and consumer science. <\/p>\n
Horticulturist Dr. Craig Smith will teach the students how to cure plant diseases, soil and plant nutrition, and integrated pest management.<\/p>\n
Edgar Cocker, who is associate director for family and consumer science, will introduce the students to family development and resource management, money management, parenting skills, balancing work and family, backyard gardening, recipes analysis, nutrition education, food processing and preservation.<\/p>\n
Trainings will be held at the Cooperative Research, Extension and Education Service laboratory from 9am to 4pm. The program ends July 30. <\/p>\n
NMC ADAP director Anthony Benavente, along with NMC ADAP coordinator Esther Kapileo and NMC CREES administrative assistant Randy Mendoza recently briefed the students at the CREES conference room on the importance of the program.<\/p>\n
