All the children of the CNMI are invited to join.<\/p>\n<p>The first challenge is for preschool children and those children going into Kindergarten, first, second or third grades. They will be required to read 20 Caldecott award-winning books. Parents may read the stories to children unable to read yet. Each child who completes and returns a booklet by the end of July will receive a book of their own.<\/p>\n<p>The second challenge is for students going into fourth through eight grades. They will be required to read six Newberry award winning books and write a paragraph about each book. They must read the books during the challenge time period. Books read before July 12 do not count. Each student who completes and returns a booklet by the end of July will receive a $10 gift certificate for Best Sellers Book Store.<\/p>\n<p>Upon completion of the required reading the booklet must be returned to the library. The Children\u2019s Librarian will review each booklet to see that it is complete.<\/p>\n<p>The gift certificates and the books for the younger children will be supplied by the Library Friends, dedicated to improving literacy in the CNMI.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is having two reading challenges beginning July 12 to the end of the month, July 31.
