Hundreds of Saipan residents rushed to call the Marianas Cable Vision yesterday to take advantage of the cable TV provider\u2019s limited free installation offer, congesting the phone lines at the company.<\/p>\n
As a result, some existing subscribers had a difficult time lodging concerns about disruptions in their cable service.<\/p>\n
The Saipan Tribune received calls from some MCV subscribers yesterday complaining that they don\u2019t have cable connection. One of the callers said she had been trying to call MCV\u2019s customer service unit, but she could not get through. <\/p>\n
MCV marketing manager Mark Birmingham admitted that cable service has yet to be restored in some \u201cisolated\u201d areas on island that were affected by Typhoon Tingting. He, however, maintained that crews from Guam would continue working until all subscribers get connected.<\/p>\n
\u201cVery few people don\u2019t have [cable service]. We\u2019re trying to connect them really fast,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Birmingham added that the main reason for the congested phone lines at MCV was the great number of people calling the company for the \u201cSummer Sellathon\u201d promo. <\/p>\n
The free, same-day installation offer started on Thursday and will run until Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a lot of customer service representatives. It\u2019s just that the Summer Sellathon is so popular. We have not had a special like this in the last three years,\u201d Birmingham said.<\/p>\n
MCV, the only cable TV provider on Saipan, has received over a hundred requests for installation so far, according to Birmingham.<\/p>\n
Because of this, the company has set a 3pm deadline for installation requests. Any applicant coming in beyond that time will have their cable service installed the following day.<\/p>\n
MCV crews will be doing installations even on Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n
The cable TV provider has an estimated 5,000 subscribers on Saipan, Birmingham said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
