{"id":82725,"date":"2004-07-20T05:02:00","date_gmt":"2004-07-20T05:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/9ff05e5b-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2004-07-20T05:02:00","modified_gmt":"2004-07-20T05:02:00","slug":"9ff05e6f-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/9ff05e6f-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Apprenticeship program gets good response"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Cassie Dlg Fejeran<br \/>\nSpecial to the Saipan Tribune<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-two students from Rota and Saipan have been accepted to participate in the Northern Marianas College ADAP High School Apprenticeship program, which aims to give them hands-on experience on agriculture and food processing principles. <\/p>\n<p>The students are already done with their agricultural training\u2014which took up the first two weeks of the program\u2014and are now undergoing sessions in food processing and preservations. The session is being conducted by Edgar Cocker, the associate director for family and consumer science.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt gave me a greater motivation to strive further in my education.  There are so many things that I have learned that I\u2019ve never even thought about before and the program is not even over yet,\u201d said Wilet Reiman, one of the participants.<\/p>\n<p>Racquel Mendoza said the things that they are now learning will have a big impact on the rest of their lives. \u201cWe are learning how to save so much money just by cooking up a dish using local products.  We\u2019re also learning how to live healthy, what not to eat, and the right stuff to eat,\u201d she said.  <\/p>\n<p>Alvie Sanchez is simply grateful to be a part of the program.  \u201cThe program has a lot to contribute in what my group is learning too.  I really wish that we could share our knowledge with everyone else on island,\u201d Sanchez said.  <\/p>\n<p>Trainings are held at the Cooperative Research, Extension and Education Service laboratory from 9am to 4pm.
