Top seeds Garapan Rollers I and the 69ers will battle for the championship of the 2004 Island-wide Village Youth Basketball League after both teams waylaid separate opponents Wednesday night at the Garapan court.<\/p>\n
G-Rollers I advanced after relegating Chalan Kanoa Saints to the consolation round 58-48 in the first game.<\/p>\n
Both teams managed to score 12 points apiece after the first eight minutes of the contest. But G-Rollers began to put some distance between them and the Saints starting in the second canto and were able to take a 32-22 advantage at lemontime.<\/p>\n
G-Rollers continued to run the exhausted Saints to the ground in the third and in the fourth quarter formalized their entry to the championship round with the easy victory.<\/p>\n
Joe Pangelinan paced coach Joe Diaz\u2019s crew with 18 points, while Keone Chariton added 9 markers.<\/p>\n
Lam Reyes led the Saints in a losing cause with a game-high 21 points. The team\u2019s quarterfinals hero Joe Kim managed just 10 points.<\/p>\n
In the second game, the 69ers deep-sixed the Spiders 73-37 in an awesome show of strength going into the finals.<\/p>\n
The extermination started immediately after the tip-off with the 69ers taking the opening quarter 14-4. It was 32-15 at the turn and the Spiders\u2019 fate was sealed after the pennant runner-up touched up their advantage to 55-27 going into the fourth and final quarter.<\/p>\n
Regular season MVP Preston Basa led all scorers with 22 markers, while Jake Maratita was a perfect second adding 21. Bill Babauta also tossed in 12 points in the win. Ryan Manglona was the only double-digit scorer for the Spiders with 10.<\/p>\n
