{"id":82799,"date":"2004-07-23T19:15:00","date_gmt":"2004-07-23T19:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/9ff11267-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2004-07-23T19:15:00","modified_gmt":"2004-07-23T19:15:00","slug":"9ff11278-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/9ff11278-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"150 people participate in Freedom Run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Freedom Run attracted an estimated 150 people to the Beach Road pathway early Saturday morning in an event organized by the Liberation Committee. <\/p>\n<p>Participants were bright and early as they took the route from Oleai Pavilion pathway to the 13 Fishermen Monument and back.<\/p>\n<p>Radio stations Power 99 and the Rock 97.9 were on hand to support the runners. \u201cOur station was there to give them [participants] support. We are very happy with the turnout and the sponsors were, too,\u201d said Tina Palacios from Power 99.<\/p>\n<p>The event was supposed to take place July 4 but was postponed due to the typhoon, which left the committee with two weeks of planning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were happy with the turnout. We thought that the people would not join because it was postponed,\u201d Tina added.  <\/p>\n<p>A total of 400 t-shirts and 200 umbrellas were given away to the participants. Refreshments were also given to the runners at the finish point.<\/p>\n<p>According to Victor Cepeda, chairperson for the Liberation Committee and staff of the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office, another Freedom Run event is being organized.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people really enjoyed it.  They were requesting that this should be done more. The Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety was there and he supported the run,\u201d said Cepeda.
